Say “I Love You” Without Saying a Word
“Love is deaf. You can’t just tell someone you love them. You have to show it.” – Unknown
Some people find it easy to say those three little words. However, the person receiving that message may not feel the powerful emotion behind it. That expression of feeling can fall onto deaf ears if it does not resonate on all of the senses. There is more than one way to say “I love you”, and it doesn’t require speaking.
#1. Love by Touch
Touch is one of the senses that has a strong impact on a person in love. Remember when you touch your partner’s hand and the reaction you had? Whether it was chills, electricity, or tingling, it activated so many sensors in such a small place.
The physical affection you share has a direct link to the strength of your relationship. Naturally, any negative or painful touch will have the opposite effect. But research shows that people who are dealing with challenges or struggles are more likely to find a resolution when touch is involved.
When you are in love, you are eager to share a hug, a kiss, or a caress. The more you touch, the more connected you and your partner are. When the words “I love you” are spoken, the meaning and emotion is more clearly defined when it is paired with touch such as a hand on the shoulder or a gentle stroke of the hand.
#2. Love by Taste
Taste is a more subjective from person to person. People who grew up in a happy childhood will connect certain flavors to that happiness. Perhaps it is strawberry picking with the family in the summer or Grandma’s cookies when you visited her. The flavors trigger those memories and feelings of positive emotions. Flavors can also have an adverse reaction and emotion, like the meal you ate before you got sick or a flavor that is just unsatisfactory to your palate.
To show love to your partner, you need to build upon the positive things that you have shared. You may try to recreate their favorite family meal to show how you want to share in their happy times. You can also try new things together like a couple’s cooking class or a wine tasting.
When you build memories together forged in love and attention, those memories will come alive when you taste the object that triggers it. You can show your partner how much you love them over and over again when you take the time to feed them with special meals and flavors.
#3. Love by Smell
Taste and smell are connected by the same chemical sensing system. However, when you think about love and the senses, you are not going to have the same feeling if you lick the fragrant rose that your partner gave you. You can still show your partner that you love them by sharing scents and aromas that you know they enjoy.
Physical attraction can be the results of pheromones. Men and women can be influenced by the natural smell of another person. The same is true for colognes and perfumes. If you are leaving for a business trip, you may consider leaving a piece of clothing near the bed that has your smell on it.
It can be a reminder of a love even when you are away. Of course flowers are a common symbol for love for their visual beauty as well as their fragrance. This is often an acknowledgment of love on birthdays, anniversaries, and Valentine’s Day.
#4. Love by Sight
People will talk about love at first sight, but love can be seen by couples long after the first meeting. While this phenomenon can be the physical or sensory connection between two people, there is a number of ways that people show their love that their partner can see for themselves.
In the movies, the lead characters will do something that can make an impact on whether or not they will keep their love interest. It can be facing a fear like heights. It can be taking on a challenge for their partner’s favor. There are numerous ways that a person can show their partner how much they love them.
When coupled with “I love you”, the use of other senses can create a stronger impact. Love can be deaf, but a relationship cannot deny the meaning of the words when it is demonstration of all of the senses.
